Ok, First of all, i didn't die.. I had have been so stupid busy and, as a normal ADDed Photographer, i manage my time real poorly.
But, on the good side, i've been shooting a lot. This is a quick update on some model testing i've been doing. This is Chris Smolqy, who's just a walking zanax pill (such a cool guy!!). I got my first magazine cover!! It's a portuguese publication based in Vancouver, Canada. They ran an article on my friend Dj Felipe Lira, who's going to play in Canada this summer and used my photo on the cover.

This was shot in the swamps of Natal, Brazil. I used day light and a bouncer to my right. We had 10 minutes with the sun, since it goes down really quick in the southern hemisphere. But it seems that i thrive on chaos and always get the my favorite images in the middle of the rush.

Miss Brazil 2009 is from my home state!!

Stephanie was going to a Gala at The Stepenwolf Theater in Chicago and i had a few minutes to snap this shot. Besides the beautiful light from the overcast sky, i used a 580EX with a off-shoe cord hand held to camera right.

Well, time has finally come that i have to go back to "reality". I'm flying out first thing in the morning and will get to Chicago on tuesday evening.
I already miss Brazil, its people specially, my family and friends. I'll also miss our simple happiness.

Eu gostaria de pedir desculpas a todas as pessoas interessadas no seminario de luz de estudio que eu iria ministrar aqui em Natal. Mas devido a problemas com a organizacao do evento, as aulas foram canceladas.
Na minha proxima viagem a Natal, que acontecerah em breve, alugarei um estudio onde darei esse mesmo curso com a carga horaria de 30 hora/aula.

Does the fly land on the same spot twice?

As photographers, we all know that a lot of the images that we pursuit now, have already been embedded in our minds for a long time. I had never felt that, though. Until I snapped this photo of a boy at my Father's farm, loved it but i didn't know WHY i liked it or WHY i even took it. Then I realized that it looked exactly like a painting my family had in our living room when i was a kid and i was obsessed about. And, as to questioning myself on why i thought this photo was important, i see more and more reasons every time i look at it.
I see myself disoriented and curious, sad but contemplative, immature but confident.
I also love the link to that part of my past i had forgotten and I love the fact that i realized that we're governed by so many different forces that takes us "instinctively" to where we are right now.

Make-Over

I've been working on a make over for this blog for the longest time. Well, i've got this nasty cold and it's been raining non-stop for 3 days, so i can't go to the beach. So, here's part of the result. I've seen pictures of Chicago and it looks so "deliciously" cold, i think i'll stay here for a little while. I'm just going to have to start selling my body to make a little money. Anybody up for it??

Os Cao de Redinha - The Devils of Redinha

This is a carnaval group that's been parading for over 40 years in a small beach community in Natal, Brazil. They cover themselves in mud, which they use to splash whomever comes in their path, and dance through the narrow streets of Redinha. It was a lot of fun to be amidst it all. Soooo, i'm giving a workshop in the use of studio and available light at SENAC school in Natal. I got interviewed by the major local news paper "Diario de Natal" and made the cultural section COVER (the entire freaking thing!). There's also one of photos on the cover of the paper! I'm so excited that finally people are going to see my work. Nothing better for an egocentric artist :)

Pissing in the spotlight

This was taking at a friend's play. He, Cesar Amorim, wrote, directed and acted in this show called " i didn't kill it, but i know who i was". An amazingly rich and complex comedy (?) I was really happy to spend some time in the theater again which is one thing i think influences my light and composition of photographs.

Jeff is with Stewart Talent in Chicago and he's just the coolest and most professional guy. I made him wear the tiniest speedo ever, long underwear ONLY out in the snow and feathers in his hair.
I love testing with models who are just up for everything. It's the best about photography, to find out about unexpected imagery.
